First Ride of The Year

Went for my first bike ride of the year today, on a classic early-season trail. There was mud, hardpack, dust, streams, wildflowers and snow. All in 8 miles. A few too many extended walks through snow though, I think it needs a few more weeks before it’s really good to go. It was really fun to get out, but I’m going snowboarding tomorrow.

It’s Friday, still plugging along, getting things done. It’s a good feeling. It’s also starting to warm up outside, and I’m starting to think about breaking out the old two-wheeler. When I was in my early teens, I used to think it would be really cool to design bicycles… I’d spend hours sketching things out, trying to come up with some sort of ultimate full-suspension concept. I later on learned how much advanced math is involved in engineering, and decided that graphics and clothing were a lot more my style. Nonetheless, I still like checking out quality bike design and craftsmanship. So if I happened to be traveling to the Netherlands this summer, I would check out some Helvetica, and also the amazing exhibition of Dutch bicycle design at Designhuis, which I stumbled upon on Core77.
